Yesterday's Rosemont show had a much bigger turnout than last year, according to the Chicago Tribune. The article goes on to say that although Haley's dad Harry didn't get to perform with her, she still got the "biggest cheers".
But Reinhart, in coming home, got the biggest cheers and earned them. In reprisals of her big TV-show numbers, the classic "House of the Rising Sun" and Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets," she again showcased a voice that seemingly moves with stunning ease to any place she asks it to go, from blues growl to girlish innocence to credible scatting.
The two had to fight to get [Moanin'] on the tour's set list, father Harry Reinhart said, but the reception it got showed that the kids' instincts are spot on: You don't have to baby a crowd with only Top 40 hits or classic rock.
With her hometown concert stop on the way, Haley stopped by Chicago News Station Windy City Live. In it, she talks about being back home, her record deal and working on the album post-tour, auditioning for Idol a second time, performing with her dad, the growl, the beatles, her biggest life change during Idol, and her Top 3 hometown visit.
She also talks about wanting to work with Casey on the album and how she's super excited to perform in her hometown tomorrow (Aug 6, 2011)
My mom has a great voice, my dad can really jam and my sister is already writing amazing music so why wouldn't I want them on the album? ... Any possibility her dad Harry - who so memorably riffed on guitar during Haley's "Idol" rendition of the Led Zeppelin classic "What Is And What Should Never Be" could join her onstage Saturday? "You know that would be incredible and I think I'm going to ask my guys here" she said. "You never know"
During a phone interview with The Detroit News, Haley revealed that she never growled when she sang before she went on Idol. She went on to say that although the growl is her signature thing, she's not about to go overboard with it.
"It's funny, I never really did that at all before I got onto 'Idol,' " says Reinhart, on the phone last week from a tour stop in Charlotte, N.C. "And I remember during 'God Bless the Child' that sound just came out of me, and there was no turning back."
Before the Nashville show, In it she talks about her record deal with Interscope and getting photoshoots and a website together, the "musical process" she wants to take, what was discussed in the agreement, waiting until after the tour to start recording if possible, having to hint about the deal in prior interviews, working with Casey to put music to her pre-idol original lyrics, what the tour has been like for her so far, her worst experiences on tour, and seeing Paul McCartney during the upcoming Chicago stop.
Prior to the concert in Duluth, Haley and the rest of the Top 11 of American Idol met with the kids of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. They also talked with Wendy Threatt of The Voice, a local multimedia studio owned by Ryan Seacrest. Haley said she would love to duet with Casey on an album if given the opportunity.
All of them squeezed into the studio to talk for 30 minutes with Wendy Threatt, the Voice jock who used to work at Star 94, Ryan's first employer. Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart were the gabbiest, with Casey Abrams, James Durbin and Jacob Lusk contributing plenty as well. Quietest? Paul McDonald and Pia Toscano. Pia and Haley seemed very tight, sitting together in the studio and during the autograph session afterwards.
